Effective infection prevention and control done properly can reduce the risk of spreading between individuals, patients, and workers in the healthcare sector. Secure Healthcare Solutions provides mandatory training which covers the importance of infection control. Our complex specialist nurses can provide the training needed for you to be confident in your position.

Being in the healthcare sector, infections are at a high risk of being transmitted everywhere as you are in a face-to-face setting with a lot of individuals. Infections come primarily from human sources such as patients, service users, and clinicians. Successful infection control measures involve implementing workplace practices that control the spread of infection.

Secure Healthcare makes sure that all care staff practice infection control

  • Standard Precautions
  • Transmission-Based Precautions

Standard precautions are basic infection prevention and control strategies that apply to many people. This strategy which our complex specialist nurses and Healthcare Assistants follow are standard hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), and appropriate handling and disposal of the sharp object such as needles ETC. Secure Healthcare Solutions provide the full training needed and all PPE to all our care staff so they can carry out a safe measure of Infection control.

Transmission-based precautions are specific interventions to interrupt the mode of transmission of infectious agents. They are used to control the risk of spreading infections between patients, service users, and clients who are suspected or confirmed to be infected. Transmission-based precautions are recommended as additional work practice.

Infection prevention and control

Hand Hygiene is the most common measure for preventing the spread of infections and reducing healthcare-associated infections. Secure Healthcare Solutions provides hand sanitizers to all our staff, and we place all equipment needed to prevent disease in the homes for safe practice.

Developing policies for handling medical and infectious waste can lead to consequences. The importance of waste management makes the facility or the client’s homeless infectious due to its tendency to leave germs on surfaces.

Disinfecting is also a key factor in which It reduces the risk of infection spreading, the process of wiping down surfaces, and removing germs, dirt, and organic matter from surfaces. Using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces is as important as anything when providing a service of care to a service user in the comfort of their own home especially if they have complex needs infection spreading can cause harm to the individuals’ health.

Secure Healthcare stresses to the care staff that when you are in home care settings or if the service user has 24-hour care at home under Secure Healthcare that infection control and prevention are demonstrated due to the duty of care that needs to be provided. Alcohol wipes and detergent wipes are good ways to practice disinfection of surfaces. Secure Healthcare also provides refresher courses to individuals who feel like they need to clean up on their skills and knowledge for their mandatory training.

Secure Healthcare Solutions makes sure that all infection control protocols are in practice and followed for the best jobs in the west midlands get in contact with us today.

Sepsis causes the deaths of normally 5 per hour in the UK and an exceptionally large number worldwide. Sepsis is still one of the many diseases that can kill an overall healthy adult within hours. Our specialised trained nurses here at Secure Healthcare Solutions are well trained in all aspects of care and can provide a tailored service of care to you or your loved ones.

The key symptoms are confusing such as not passing urine as normal, they have temperatures either high or low; shivering uncontrollably and having the sweats; cold/blotched legs and arms. When faced with symptoms like these, becoming worse, a set of observations should be taken promptly.

Some of these symptoms can indicate shock and organ failure due to sepsis.

There are 2 significant factors of shock that can develop when you get sepsis:

Cold Shock

  • Cardiac output decreases due to sepsis-included dysfunctions the heart and the cardiovascular system
  • Initial constriction of small blood vessels may cause falsely reassuring normal blood pressure (it’ll be known in the fast heart rate)
  • Dropping in blood pressure
  • Your skin becomes blotchy/clammy and cold
  • The low cardiac input and result into the patient going into cardiac arrest

Warm Shock

  • Skin flushes due to sepsis-included dilation (small blood vessels)
  • Increases heart rate which maintains the increased cardiac output
  • Blood pressure will normally rise
  • Hypotensive cardiac arrest

Young children and infants and elderly people may have a non-specific symptom of sepsis which can be hard to diagnose but are rapidly progressive, with a high risk of death. Babies and young children can often show an advance state of shock. Patients or service users with known infections such as chest infections etc or risk factors due to underlying conditions are particularly vulnerable.

Risk assessment and good basic observations are the best way to find out if the patient has sepsis or if they just have a simple infection. If the patient or service user looks seriously ill, consider sepsis, and report a review to be held with clinical team.

Health professionals should retain they key symptoms, ensure early diagnosis, effective communication, and quick and simple treatments so that patients’ chances of survival increase.

Epilepsy is a serious neurological condition that can affect many people at any age at any moment in life. Epilepsy affects around 1 in every 100 people in the UK and every day 87 people are diagnosed with it.

Most children and young people with Epilepsy can still enjoy and take part in their day-to-day activities, but if their seizures are not in control fully, they will need some extra safety measures to protect them from harm. Secure Healthcare Solutions has many emergency rescue medication-trained staff who deal with epilepsy service users on a daily basis and can help you or your family!

Tips on keeping children and young people safe that have epilepsy:

  • Swimming- Always have a lifeguard poolside, and a responsible adult to watch over the individual who has epilepsy
  • Heights- Not having the individual who has epilepsy stand more than twice their standing height without having a responsible individual having close supervision
  • Alcohol- Drinking can have a major effect on your epilepsy and risk of seizures.
  • Drugs- Drugs can trigger seizures, so explaining to children and young adults that they are at high risk of having more seizures when abusing drugs

The use of guards on your heaters and radiators to stop you from falling on them directly and installing smoke detectors to let you know that your food is burning if you were to forget what you are doing in the case of your seizure, it has affected where you can lose your awareness.

Epilepsy serious neurological condition

Covering your furniture edges that are sharp or stick out, in case of a seizure and you have a fall will protect you from any injuries that can be caused.

Do not lock the bathroom door, in case of a seizure and you are in the bathroom, the access will be easier for the responsible individual to come in and support you in case of an emergency.

Place your saucepans on the back of the stove and not the front with the handles turned away from the edge of the cooker.

Most individuals with epilepsy can take part in sports and other leisure activities but there will be some precautions you might need to take if your seizures are not well controlled. For example, avoid doing water sports on your own such as swimming, wearing a helmet when you are riding a bike, and avoiding certain types of gym equipment, For stuff like this, you can ask the gym staff for advice.

If you are driving or hold a driving license, you must tell the DVLA if you have a seizure. Your license may be taken away if your seizures aren’t under control. When you can reapply for a license depends on the type of seizure you had. For example, for individuals who have seizures it has caused them to lose consciousness, you won’t be able to reapply until they have not had any seizures for a minimum of a year.

Epilepsy does not affect your ability to have children and there’s no reason why you won’t be able to have a healthy pregnancy. If you have epilepsy and are planning on having a baby, make sure you discuss this with your doctor first.

The morning cup of coffee is what a lot of people look forward to when they wake up especially as Health Care Assistants working 12-hour shifts. When you still feel groggy in the morning to give you that boost through the morning a good cup of coffee will sort you out to work in either your hospitals, community sector, nursing homes, or private hospitals.

You are not alone!

In America, 80% of Americans drink coffee every day.

But do you think drinking coffee is bad for you?

The majority of people say that when drinking coffee, their heart feels weird. They may feel things such as your heart racing, heart palpitations, or an increased heart rate. Does this mean Coffee is Bad for you?

Coffee is actually full of health benefits, according to the collection of cardiology, drinking two to three cups of coffee per day is associated with maintaining a healthy heart.

Having two to three cups of coffee a day has a neutral effect, this means that it didn’t cause any harm to the health of the heart thus performing to the best of your ability as a healthcare assistant/ Nurse

Cardiovascular improvements were associated with a low risk for:

  • Developing coronary heart disease
  • Heart failure
  • Heart rhythm problems
  • Dying for any reason

If you are a one-cup-a-day coffee drinker, there’s good news for you too, the risk of getting a heart-related death and stroke is lower!

health effect coffee

“Coffee beans actually have over 100 biologically active compounds. These substances can help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, boost metabolism, inhibit the guts absorption of fat, and block receptors known to be involved with abnormal heart rhythms”

Negative effects on the heart from coffee for health care assistants:

Caffeine’s effect on overall health is one of the biggest concerns when it comes to coffee. The caffeine that is in coffee is high, around 100mg per 8-ounce cup.

Caffeine increases the heart rate and blood pressure, and too much of it can cause things such as anxiety, insomnia, headaches, and stomach irritation. Also, caffeine is very addictive. Whilst being on shift as a Healthcare Assistant/ Nurse, drinking a coffee is the only thing that may keep you going as working through your hard shift or to keep you awake

Roughly, around 400mg is the maximum amount of caffeine that someone should consume in one day, which equals around 4 cups of coffee a day.

On the other hand, a lot of people do not normally consume their coffee black, this is where coffee can go from good to bad! Adding the milk or cream and sugar can significantly increase the calorie, sugar, and fat content. This can cause weight gain, diabetes, and increased blood sugar levels which again can lead to heart disease and other health problems.

When drinking coffee think about the benefits and the problems it can come with, and when adding your sweetener, try something besides sugars and creamers!

Secure Healthcare Solutions has many opportunities for Healthcare Assistants and nurses!
